REIA NEWSLETTER - JULY 2010
Greetings all Roads Enders! We are pleased that our new monthly meeting place at the Inn at Wecoma on North Highway 101 in Lincoln City is working out well. They provide coffee and juices and our generous members provide snacks. The meeting is at 10:30 a.m. on the second Saturday of each month and provides a good time to ask questions and gather information. Join us! A serious concern in Roads End is the city’s constant attempt to rush us into annexation to the city. Some of the glaring problems with annexation are: the increase of our property taxes by close to 50% the total trashing of our already lax zoning the mere fact that our small permanent population of 146 residences would generate so few votes that our voice would have no weight in city affairs The city continues to threaten us with the discontinuation of water supplies and with an increase of water/sewer rates which are presently double the city rate. The city has also carried on a barrage of erroneous and misleading statements to discredit Roads End citizens to city residents, and these have been published in the local newspapers. These ill-conceived abasements and threats are not going unnoticed by the REIA board. More detailed information will be sent to members soon. The election results are as follows – all candidates were re-elected and once again the organization will be headed by Nathan Long, president; Maud Krom, vice president; Jim Schatzel, treasurer; Jutta Wilson and Judith Bullard-Schatzel, co-secretaries. We owe them and all members of the board a big thank you for all their work. Of small note: If any of you will have or have had cataract eye surgery with lens implants you must go to the Oregon DMV and update your driver’s license. Failure to do so comes with a fine of almost $300. Take proof of your place of birth and social security card. Membership time is here. Enclosed is a membership renewal/new member application form. The membership cost is minimal. We use these funds to help maintain our roads, disseminate information and to provide members with a summer-time picnic and Christmas brunch. Our purpose is to maintain laws and orderliness in our community. Join our cause! Picnic time approaches. Come to the Elk’s Wapiti Park, just south of Lincoln City (see map) on Saturday, August 14 at 1 p.m. The association will provide fried chicken, beverages (beer, wine, soda pop and coffee) eating utensils, tables, chairs and covered space in beautiful setting. Please bring a hot dish, salad or dessert to complete the meal. All owners and permanent renters are welcome. Incidentally, your guests are very welcome. Help us celebrate summer and our community. It’s also an excellent opportunity to meet fellow Roads Enders. |
