REIA GENERAL MEETING June 12, 2010 President Nathan Long called the meeting to order at 10:35 a.m. He thanked Margie for providing refreshments. Jim Schatzel read the treasurer’s report. Margie Middleton moved to approve the report as read and Nancy Usher seconded the motion. Motion carried unanimously. The minutes of the last general meeting were read. COMMITTEE REPORTS Neighborhood Emergency Management: Brayden noted that Homeland Security funding has been reduced and that, as a community, in the event of an emergency situation, we are more on our own than ever. Sheridan talked about emergency supplies and their location. He further addressed handouts pertaining to emergency information and where they can be obtained. He suggested that members re-check their home supplies to ensure that everything they have for an emergency is updated and in working order. Roads: Fred Adams spoke about emergency routes. He identified them as Neptune between 66th and 74th. He reported that the REIA authorized $1,800 from Devil’s Lake to take care of the high-center situation along that route and further mentioned that the project was waiting on the weather at this point because of concerns regarding heavy equipment. Pot holes were discussed and Fred noted that they will be monitored, but to a large extent, pothole repairs are often the responsibility of the property owners. Sign removal at Neptune and Logan Road was discussed. Sanitation: Roger Middleton reported that the new pump is in and should be functional in about a month. Some of the old parts “aged out” and needed to be replaced. He stressed that we dispose of fats separately and not pour them down the drain. Website: Nathan shared that the board approved Mike Marshall to maintain the website. Zoning: Maud reported that there are few new homes in the Bellhaven development and that the streets in that development are private. She also noted that the real estate market is beginning to pick up in activity. Ron Usher stated that there has been a change in building height restrictions. These new restriction could make a difference in the future should someone want to re-build after their existing home had been damaged due to fire, flood, etc. He further noted that Palisades Phase III is back on board. There will be a hearing this next Tuesday, June 15 regarding another extension. He has concerns of possible damage To Roads End residents on Voyage if the use of Voyage as to connect in such a way to funnel through Port Lane. Meeting can be viewed on channel #4 through cable television. ANNEXATION: Although Charmian Maas informed us that a triple majority (based on ownership, value and acreage) still holds, it remains unclear how the city counsel arrives at their reported numbers of signed consent forms for annexation. Fred Adams shared a breakdown of lots and homes in Roads End. Out of a total of 890 lots, 146 are permanent residences, 378 are absentee owners (weekenders), 169vacation rentals, 136 buildable lots and 23 unbuildable lots. As of this meeting, there were 92 homes listed for sale; one of which is bank-owned and 2 that are short sales. It was noted that there are five rental companies (property management) that manage 89 of the vacation rentals. The article in the News Guard this last week regarding third-party beneficiaries was discussed VRDs: Nothing to report Old Business: Acknowledgements and thanks to Fred Adams for changing the meeting sign to reflect our new meeting venue and to Merry Kaski and Alice Cannon for counting the ballots for the REIA Board election. New Business: It was mentioned that those who have had a change in their vision status need to update driver’s licenses. The annual pot-luck picnic will again be at Wapiti Park on August 14th. President Nathan Long thanked the membership for the ongoing support of the local food bank by their generous contributions of foodstuffs and monetary donations.
