Roads End Point has been officially approved as the name for the promontory at the north end of Roads End. The landmark which some misidentify as Cascade Head (which is further north) is popular with beachcombers and photographers. (NG - 12/16/1998) The United States Board on Geographic Names approved the name at a November 12, 1998 meeting (Picture). (Letter from the U.S. Board - 12/3/1998)(10) Since August, 1999 researchers from Oregon State University have been operating an Ocean Surface Current Mapping System at Roads End State Park. Consisting of two antennas, one transmitting and one receiving, the system collects data measuring waves on the ocean surface. The researchers believe measuring ocean currents is vital to the effective management of coastal resources. (NG - 1/12/2000) Lincoln City joined in the Oregon Coast Glass Floats 2000 project in December, 1999. Various artists were to create 2,000 Japanese-style glass fishing floats to be released along the coast in Lincoln County from Cascade head south. (NG - 12/16/1999) A Web Site for the Roads End Improvement Association was created on the Internet on March 16, 2001. On going events of the water situation and other events plus Roads End history will be continually updated for the benefit of the residents and property owners of Roads End. (NG - 3/21/2001)
